Your Electric MeterAfter we have installed your electric meter, the Cooperative will read it each month. Trained, professional and properly identified meter readers will read your meter as nearly as possible on the same day of each month. Many members like to monitor usage themselves. At the bottom of the page we have provided a form to record your daily kilowatt hour usage. Each day (preferably at the same time) jot down the reading of your electric meter. Start the first of the month. By subtracting the previous day's reading from the current reading each day, you will know the number of kilowatt hours used during that 24-hour period. By adding the daily totals into a weekly total, you will learn how much power your family has used during the month. You must print the page to be able to record your data. Just click on the print button on the tool bar. Your meter does not lie. When it records more electricity is being used, try to find out why by looking at your family's activities during that given period. Was there an increase in cooking? Was the weather colder than normal? Was it laundry day? Determine which activities, if any, that can be altered to help you use energy wisely. If you have a meter like this, simply write down the numbers and subtract the previous reading from the current reading.
For more information and meter reading tips, see the examples below: If you have a meter like this (dials), draw clock faces on a piece of paper exactly as the clock hands appear on your meter. Notice that some of the hands turn right (clockwise) and some turn left (counter clockwise).
If a hand is right on a number and you don't know if it has passed or not, try this. Look at the dial to the right. Has the hand passed 0?
Example End of Month Reading________________________________________ kWh Usage__________________
Amount of Bill__________________________ Amt =cents/kWh (average cost per kWh)________________ Note: To obtain daily kWh usage, subtract previous day's reading from current day's reading.
